Everyone is comfortable with Jesus… until the conversation turns to who He really is.

In this powerful episode of Christian Straight Talk, Reverend Ben Cooper and Simon Pinchbeck ask the question many avoid: why do people happily accept Jesus as a prophet, teacher, or Christmas figure — but resist the moment Christians declare that Jesus Christ is God made flesh?

This honest and deeply biblical conversation explores the true identity of Christ from John Chapter 1 Verse 1 through to the cross, resurrection, and the power of the Holy Spirit. The discussion challenges modern Christmas culture, church compromise, counterfeit spirituality, and the growing tendency to reshape Jesus into something more culturally acceptable.

The episode also tackles difficult but important topics including:

  • the difference between following “baby Jesus” and following the risen King
  • why Christmas must ultimately point to redemption and the cross
  • the role of the Holy Spirit in salvation and spiritual revelation
  • counterfeit revival culture and confusion surrounding spiritual gifts
  • speaking in tongues and spiritual pressure inside churches
  • why many religions respect Jesus as a teacher but reject Him as Lord
  • the danger of churches replacing biblical truth with entertainment culture
  • Nicodemus, new birth, and the meaning of true salvation

This is not surface-level religion. This is real conversation about the Christ revealed in Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.

Biblical Foundation

John 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Welcome And Today’s Big Claim

SPEAKER_00

Bonjour, je m'appelle hashtag. Good morning, good world, morning world, wherever you are across this earth this morning. It is hashtag Christian Straight Talk. It is Simon and myself, and we are coming straight out of the Word of God. We got a great, great, great title today. Simon, through the power of the Holy Spirit, uh, has been sensitive and he's bringing great titles to the table. And we thank God for Simon's life. We thank God for your life. My all of our lives, you know, God is with you. Are you the John 3 3 believer? Bloodwashed, sanctified, braggadocious, radical, Bible-believing believer, because we're living in powerful times. It's Simon myself, and it is hashtag Christian Straight Talk, and it's about to get mucky. Alright, Simon.

SPEAKER_01

Good morning, uh, good morning, world. And uh we love you, and uh we love food. Thank you so much for all the podcasts you're downloading and all the support you've given us. And uh Ben, um that coffee's strong, isn't it? Because you were you was uh I was bang on it. You was bang on it, wasn't it? Right from there off. Bang, straight on it. I'm still trying to finish off my Christmas kebab over here, and um I'm in it, I'm in it the winning straight on to Jesus, like a car bonnet.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like Jacob, not gonna let him go.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, but do you know what? Welcome again to Hashtag Christian Straight Talk, the podcast that says takes you beyond the barriers, that mentions Jesus more than any other podcast in the world there. In the world, do you reckon Ben?

SPEAKER_00

And we're not being arrogant, no, not being arrogant in any way, shape, or form. We're just two old farm dogs talking about Jesus, yeah, bringing the gospel, bringing life's truths to the door of all of our homes, and just being completely honest and open and and just not being frightened to talk. You know, the church is frightened to talk, isn't it? It's it's being strangled by government.

SPEAKER_01

It's been strangled by government, but it's also being strangled by a feeling, like we said before, that that you've got to be your your life's gotta be good, ain't it? You've got to be good, you've got to be blessed and highly favoured to be a Christian, you've got to be shining. You know, with Jesus, you know, everything should be perfect. Well, we know it's not perfect, it's quite mucky, and and Jesus spent his time among imperfect people.

SPEAKER_00

And I love that, Simon. You know, the Bible's very clear in it that Jesus calls the lowly, the despised things of the world, the things that are not, to nullify the things that are. Do you know what? And I thank God for the way he saved me and set me free.

SPEAKER_01

So so here we have Jesus, and the title of today's uh podcast been, uh, and we're there'll be we're gonna do two on this one. We're gonna do two 30-minute podcasts and both split over into each other. But the title has been Everyone Loves Jesus until.

SPEAKER_00

Until what?

SPEAKER_01

Well, we're gonna have a look at that. We're gonna have a look at that, Ben, because everyone loves Jesus.

Santa Stories And Christmas Priorities

SPEAKER_01

Especially, I mean, we're coming to you at a Christmas time of year, and oh baby Jesus.

SPEAKER_00

It's not Christmas in here. I won't have one bit of tinsel.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not a paganistic devil worshipping and we're not Scrooge's, we we you know you know, praise the Lord, hallelujah, you know, bring in the ammunition. We know we love, you know, we're looking at this great, it's great, and we thank God for it. But an interesting, I found an interesting fact out, Ben, right?

SPEAKER_00

There's no Santa.

SPEAKER_01

We won't know that's I mean, and that's another podcast that we that needs to be done, Ben.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. There's a lie that we're giving our children.

SPEAKER_01

Santa's coming, he's coming down the chimney, he's all dressed in red. He's he's got his arms around the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny. Do you know what I mean? These these are fundamental lies that that are being told.

SPEAKER_00

Isn't it interesting? Oh, Christian parents, how long have we said that to our children? Santa's on his way, we've left the carrots out.

SPEAKER_01

That is another podcast I've got in the back burner because do you know that when people when kids find out the truth, it causes a lot of distress. Yeah, you know, it does really. It causes a lot of problems. So we'll um we'll we'll go down that one. Uh it may be a rabbit hole, but we'll go down it, we'll follow it through, and we'll see where it where it comes out with the Lord. That's the truth.

SPEAKER_00

It's quite interesting at Christmas, because coming off this subject in a moment, but you've just opened the can up. How many of us that I did? That's that's Jesus. You open the can up, it's all about you, it's not me. When you look at Christmas and Santa, very we're gonna lead this right now. Isn't it interesting that Christians can probably give more airtime to Santa over the three weeks than they do to Jesus for the rest of the rest of the year?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and and what is what is the little slick Christian saying that that we have to people think they have to say just to remind people about what it what Christmas was really all about. They say, Oh, Jesus is the reason for the season, don't they? They say uh and that's uh they have to say that to counter. To counter all the all the other stuff. They don't say it at Easter, do they?

SPEAKER_00

No. Do you know what? There's a church in Seven Oaks, and I'll I'll I'll put it out. There's a church in Seven Oaks, and do you know what they're advertising for Christmas? The elf on the shelf. They're doing more with the elf on the shelf than they are. I tell you what, the the world of church is absolutely crazy.

SPEAKER_01

It is crazy, it is crazy.

SPEAKER_00

Santa driven, hot cross bun driven, the elf on the shelf, worldly stuff creeping in.

SPEAKER_01

And uh the what we've just gone into there, uh listeners, and uh and and hashtag Christian Straight Or Family is is what we ended with last week, which was you know, where has the church gone wrong? So that just continues. It's another dimension of where where certain churches are of are going up coming down the wrong chimney, Ben.

SPEAKER_00

You know, they're down the wrong chimney. They they're they're you know what I mean. But this is really critical, you know. People know what titles I got, and you know what? Titles are nothing, they really mean nothing. The most important thing to me is to know that I'm saved, Simon. All I all I want to know is Jesus. You won't forget me. Please, God, when when when I get called home, please, I do not want to hear away from me. But Lord, I've done church for years. That is the most scariest thing on earth that frightened to me.

SPEAKER_01

And and that Matthew 7.22, we did we did a bit of a dive into that last week, you know. But just on that point, you know, um uh I uh put something out on Facebook. I it just came, just it just dropped onto the onto the YouTube fee. It was me about about 2000 um I don't know, about 2010. I was I was doing uh uh a little um just a testament, small testament, it's only about three minutes, and um I was doing it up in Manchester then, you know, and uh you've got to be careful up there because you've got to be careful, you know. I if I if but when I mentioned I was an Arsenal supporter, supporter, I nearly got chased out of the buildings, you know what I mean? So you've got to be careful, but but one guy, you know, put on there, he said uh uh you know I love listening to uh to to all these uh testimonies, and uh he said uh and and he mentioned another mate of mine, he said, because he's my saviour. Oh, is he? And and I and I said I said, listen, mate, I said he's a great guy. I know him. Well he's a good friend of mine, but he's not the I am, he's not the saviour. And and in fact, the guy then came on to the and said that he said, Look, you know, um I'm your mate all day long, but Jesus Christ is your saviour. So so it just the language, the language, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

The language we've got to be careful of our language, and we we know that he might not have meant he, but it's the way that we present it, it's the way we present it, and and so and that's the church, isn't it? Um let's never say I led this person to the Lord because You didn't you didn't there's no autocult in the Bible that that is a shocker, people don't like to hear that.

SPEAKER_01

There is no time when Jesus says when you go up there and you're standing before the Lord, and and he'll go, Oh, look who he is, it's so and so, and he's led so many people to Jesus.

SPEAKER_00

He's got a lovely house. Look at that.

SPEAKER_01

How did he how did he ever think that? How did he ever mate? Hold on a minute. Hang on a minute. Where's there's the Holy Spirit? No, hang on a moment.

SPEAKER_00

Wasn't didn't the Holy Spirit have a have a say in that? Isn't it interesting that the Holy Spirit, we've said this

When Church Absorbs Pagan Culture

SPEAKER_00

before, the Holy Spirit doesn't get much airtime by can I say us as individuals? Yeah, yeah it's quite interesting, isn't it? The Holy Spirit seems to be at the triune Godhead, the one, forgive me, Holy Spirit, but you need forgive me world for what I'm about to say. It's it's the how can I say it, but I've got to say it. It's the one that gets pushed aside, and it and the Holy Spirit gets pulled out in these fake revivals.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the spirit is moving, that's what they say, in it, and then they see people transitioning into whatever and thinking, oh, that's a spirit of God when it obviously is not, but because the spirit of God is the fruits of the spirit are joy, peace, love, and all that sort of stuff. But nothing, none of no words that come out of our mouth here is w without the Holy Spirit. We we are this is spirit-led. This conversation is spirit-driven, spirit-led. Uh, people coming to faith has to be from the Holy Spirit revelation in the Bible has to be from the Holy Spirit. Amen. And that's why Jesus left this earth for the Holy Spirit then to come out and and that's right. He's because he said, didn't he? Yeah, that's what he said. I'm gonna not leave you alone. Not as orphans, and when we see, when we see in Acts where all of a sudden these these apostles who were less rough and ready guys who relied on Jesus for pretty much everything, all of a sudden they became these powerful warriors and orators, and they could stand before anybody and speak. Why? Because the Holy Spirit was and we've all been in situations where we've we we've maybe stood up uh with a microphone and thought, I don't know what I ain't got cloak.

SPEAKER_00

I'm empty, I've got nothing. I've got nothing, and that's the best way to come, empty.

SPEAKER_01

And then and then you listen back and think, what's some of the best stuff I've ever said? How does where did that come from?

SPEAKER_00

The Bible says, Open your mouth and I will fill it, but also the Bible is very clear it says you don't need any man to teach you because the Holy Spirit will teach you. That's it. So even though Jesus is the word, it is the Holy Spirit that brings the supernatural presence to it. It's the Holy Spirit that that that opens our eyes. Jesus is the word, Jesus is God, God is Jesus when you look at all that. But the Holy Spirit is is that that power that that that that fuel that gives us revelational knowledge because it is spiritual.

SPEAKER_01

And look, if you're watching any of that stuff, you see it all the time in in in places where where people are shaking like men barking like dogs, they're laughing on control. None of that is from the Holy Spirit. No, no Bible reference is not from the Holy Spirit.

SPEAKER_00

Oh Lord.

SPEAKER_01

And yet people say it is, and if you're not doing that, then you're not filled with the Spirit.

SPEAKER_00

What do you have for your breakfast? I chummed this morning. Corey, you must be spirit filled. I'm barking my way to Jesus.

SPEAKER_01

You know, people turn around to men and go, can you speak in tongues? And they've gone, Oh no, uh, well then you're not truly saved.

SPEAKER_00

You're not truly saved.

SPEAKER_01

I I honestly, what damage that does to the to the body of Christ is untold.

SPEAKER_00

And you've got to look at the speaking in tongues in very serious ways, because there is a babble out there, and babble means coming from the Tower of Babel. When God came down and he confused the language, there was babbling. How many people babble and think they're speaking in the holy language of God?

SPEAKER_01

I've been in places where you it's more like a chant, a mantra. It's a chant, a mantra, more like uh, you know, you're in an African war dance or a red Indian, you know, rain dance or something rather than a gentle uh a gentle voice. But hey, look, we we're digressing a little bit. Ben, I want to tell you, um, I came across this in uh in the Guinness Book of Records, Ben, the most expensive decorated Christmas tree, Ben. The most expensive decorated Christmas tree was worth eleven million dollars. Right. That's decorated tree. That's that's you know Kenneth Copeland's in his front room? No, it's not. Church of England. Where do you think that was? It's got all Vatican, all the things on it. It's a good guess. You know, it's close, but it's not right. Where is it, young man? Where is it? You'll be surprised to know that this Christmas tree was in Abu Dhabi in a shopping mall. No, in a shopping mall. That sounds about right, didn't it? Abu Dhabi, and it was there from I think December the 16th to December the 29th, and it was you know, about ten years ago. This thing was absolutely dripping in gold and and everything, you know. So, you know, we and we love Christmas. Praise the Lord, hallelujah, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, Lord, yeah, tinsel Christianity. So the title of today, isn't it? It's a quite a serious title as it always is. Everyone loves Jesus until So what I'm saying, why is why I say that, right?

SPEAKER_01

Obviously it's the Tommy, but why I say that? So if coming around that Christmas tree, you had all the different faiths of the world.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So you had uh the Muslims coming in, yeah. What do they think about Jesus? Uh Prophet, Messenger, Prophet Messenger, that's what they think coming. Listen, I had many uh I

The Holy Spirit And Counterfeit Revival

SPEAKER_01

under I was managing many um Muslim guys on a security uh site, and uh one, some of them just you know, with their faith they're either in neither here nor there, but one of them was very uh right in it, right in it, and uh so much so he, you know, uh he wouldn't he wouldn't use deodorant and and the other guys are complaining about him, you know. Uh but but it is what it is, and and that's that's his faith. And so, but we would uh we would discuss, we would have a chat about it, and um yeah, he he knew about Jesus, he knew all about him, knew everything about him, but he was just uh a prophet, if you like. So in the Jewish faith, he's not the messiah, isn't he?

SPEAKER_00

No, not Messiah, messenger, prophet. They look at him different ways, depending on messianic, you know, whatever table they're coming from.

SPEAKER_01

I guess the the the buddhist faith, what would they say about Jesus? He's another enlightened man.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they weren't even really giving much airtime, didn't really exist. A magic man, maybe something like that, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Or the and the Hindus, Hindus would say just who's Jesus, yeah, just enough of God or just enough of God.

SPEAKER_00

Just that's all that basically is what they all say, didn't it? But I suppose the Muslims out of all of them will pinpoint and certain traditional uh Jewish areas would pinpoint him as a set box, but everyone else will just dismiss him.

SPEAKER_01

And and at this time of year, I guess, which is Christmas time of year if you're listening to this, um I guess the the secular world and the humanists just look on baby Jesus, won't they? They'll look at baby Jesus, they'll look at him and go, you know, this is Jesus. What's yeah, there's no point, even Jehovah's Witnesses don't even believe it's witnesses, and it's not a threat, is it? Scientology, all of that sort of stuff. So what I'm trying to say is they come round a Christmas tree, won't they?

SPEAKER_00

And and round a Christmas tree.

SPEAKER_01

All the same born and all that, and they'd all gather around there and they're they'd all they'd all say, There's Jesus, and then way in a manger. And then you'd come along, Ben, and you go, That's not just Jesus.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's a son of the living God. And he's actually He's not just the Son, he's actually God Himself.

SPEAKER_01

And so the ones that come to gather, then what where are they? They scatter.

SPEAKER_00

They scatter. And then you say he's not just Jesus, he's not just God, he's the Holy Spirit, he's the triune God that we serve, because we've got to be careful about the Trinity, because that points towards Catholicism. We've got to talk about the triune Godhead that we serve in all majesty and all strength. There is no separation, but there is a separation to a level, but you can't separate Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

SPEAKER_01

And that's a great point, and that's a massive point, because you know, even in certain Christian theologies and doctrines, they say, Oh, is they're all separate. No, they're they're all the same. It's all one.

SPEAKER_00

John chapter one, verse one.

SPEAKER_01

They try and do that thing with a block of ice, don't they, and all that sort of thing. No, he's just he's just God.

SPEAKER_00

Jesus is God.

SPEAKER_01

But if we could understand him, then he wouldn't be God, would he?

SPEAKER_00

That's right. If you look in the book of Philippians, Philippians chapter two, verse six, he being the very nature God, did not consider it equality with God, something to be grasped, but he made himself nothing. He made himself nothing, taking on the nature of a servant and becoming in human likeness, and found to be an appearance as a man. He humbled himself and became obedient to death, even death on the cross. Therefore, God. So suddenly from verse 6, 7, and 8, then 9, it refers to God not separating himself, but God coming down the staircase as a human being. So God is God on the earth through the flesh of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the image of the invisible God. So Philippians chapter 2, verse 6 through to the end of verse 11 starts off speaking about God, but then through the power of the word of God, it clearly shows us that God gently brings in Jesus, who is Jesus the Son, and Jesus is the living God. Man, I tell you what, God's word is so powerful.

SPEAKER_01

God came down, it's so powerful, Ben, but all the other religious everyone else in the world boxes them loves Jesus.

SPEAKER_00

Until.

SPEAKER_01

And they wrecked a Christmas tree to celebrate a Christian festival in a country where you better not convert to Christianity because sure you'd be in the world. You'll be on the chopping block.

SPEAKER_00

But they got a Christmas tree. Well they got a Christmas tree out of there, as large as life, dripping with gold, a fairy sitting on the top.

SPEAKER_01

As long as Pastor Ben don't go down there and go.

SPEAKER_00

I'll tell you Jesus is. I'll tell you who God is.

SPEAKER_01

Let me tell you who Jesus is.

SPEAKER_00

I'll tell you who God is.

SPEAKER_01

Let me tell you who he is.

SPEAKER_00

I'll tell you who God is. God is the God of Israel. And at this moment in time, we stand with Israel. We've always stand with Israel, the biblical Israel. God bless Israel at this moment in time, and God is moving through the soldiers of Israel. Yes, he said it, because God is doing what should have been done so long ago. It is not a political war, it is a holy war. We are watching the Bible being played out before our eyes, and God, through the Israeli army, is setting people free from devil-fueled, disgusting attitudes of certain human beings, and God is setting men and women and children free on both sides of the table. Both sides of the table to the news. God fueled soldiers doing God's work on earth. That sounds crazy to say, but God is rescuing people through the Israeli army. God is doing amazing as he did in the Old Testament and as he's doing now. God is setting people free from the enemy.

SPEAKER_01

He's the God of Israel, that's the truth.

SPEAKER_00

He's the God of Israel.

SPEAKER_01

Who's God? We got a baby Jesus being born. Uh and really Christmas is the ultimate evidence of that the cross is real. Yeah. Because see what

Jesus As God And The Triune Godhead

SPEAKER_01

is not taught, I don't believe it's taught, that that Jesus didn't just come into existence on the twenty fifth of of December in a in a wasn't just born in a that Jesus was ex in existence from your favourite Ben Genesis one, wasn't he? Genesis chapter

SPEAKER_00

Chapter one. And before that. And before time, before anything is before time. He is time. He was not birthed. I'm sorry, kids. I'm sorry. He wasn't birthed on the twenty fifth of December. You know, there's every possibility according to the word of God that he it was at the Feast of Tabernacles, because the Bible says he came down and he tabernacled amongst us. John chapter one, verse fourteen. And the word became Christmas. Sorry, wrong wrong translation. The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. Dwelling is the key word. Tabernacle. John 1, then that is beautiful.

SPEAKER_01

Straight away.

SPEAKER_00

Straight away tells us.

SPEAKER_01

Going on. John's right on it, doesn't he?

SPEAKER_00

And the key factor to the timeline is in Matthew chapter 2 when it talks about the birth of Christ and King Herod. King Herod is instrumental in the timeline of history. So it puts Christ's birth at no particular month, no particular hour, and no particular year. So when we talk about Christmas, we've as the church has adopted it as a pagan festival that has come out of Rome, and the church has gone, what we will do, we'll do a counter, we'll do a counter operation. So what the pagans are doing, we'll we'll use it as a marker point, but actually the paganistic way has crept into the church. Not the church has gone into the pagan way.

SPEAKER_01

That's a great point. So they've moulded in together, and right now it's the pagan stuff taking over. Rather than taking over, rather than the way around.

SPEAKER_00

What we're gonna do is we're gonna talk about Jesus about the 25th, because they're worshipping a sun and a foreign god and all that sort of stuff. What they lift up, you know, the the winter solstice and everything that goes along with that is pagan-rooted, whereas the church, typically the church in it, should have gone in, actually hijacked it and turned it in for good. But the paganistic way has turned it into their way. Look what goes on at Christmas in the world of church. Selling tickets for Jesus. Hold on a minute. We're gonna make a few quid here, can't we? Actually, there's a Christmas carol service, it's been put on by Hill Songs or wherever at the top of the Christmas tree. It's 10 quid. Oh, hang on a minute. There's four of us. I ain't got 40 quid. People love to give at Christmas, don't they? Yeah. Let's go to the greatest showmanship place on earth. Where are we gonna go? We're gonna go to London, we're gonna go to the mega church, and we're gonna watch a performing actors and actresses acting out the nativity.

SPEAKER_01

In some way, shape, or form, which has got nothing to do with the actual but biblical birthday. The biblical birth. It's got people flying in on tight ropes. Yeah, all that's it's got everything, roller skate, Starlight Express. It's got symbolism going on, it's got triangles in the background, it's got all I understand very clearly.

SPEAKER_00

I get I get why people go, I get that, and it's good. It's good to a level. It's good to a level, but but what we've got to understand is Christmas is about one thing and one thing only: the risen king. It's not about baby Jesus, it's not about kumbaya, it's not about away in a manger and why shepherds wash their socks at night. It's nothing to do with that, it's about the cross. So when you look at the Christmas tree, look through the pagan tree and see the cross of Calvary lit up, lit up amongst the pagan festivals, because it is about salvation. The word became flesh, he was destined to die from the beginning of time. He was he was put on this earth to die.

SPEAKER_01

And that is a great point, and it's something that I was gonna bring up right next because people go, Oh, yeah, Jesus, God had to bring Jesus into the equation because Jesus loves everybody. All the prophets and all that never did. No, this was God's plan right from the very start.

SPEAKER_00

There's a scripture that escapes me. And I can't, yeah, you're right, someone there was a scripture that escaped escapes me, I think it's in the book of Acts, and it says God's deliberate plan was to take himself, but he had to use it. God's deliberate plan was to take Jesus to the cross. There is no other plan but the plan of redemption.

SPEAKER_01

That is the plan.

SPEAKER_00

That's what Christmas is about. We we look at Jesus and we wrap him up in swaddling clothes. He was wrapped by his mum and his dad. He was unwrapped by himself in the grave. You know, there's there's there's three times the Bible talks about the wrapping of Jesus. The birth, Nicodemus, our good buddy Nicodemus, he wrapped him with Joseph of Arimathea. He wrapped him in expensive David Beckham aftershave. He wrapped him in myrrh and aloes and everything. So Nicodemus wrapped him. Isn't it interesting that Nicodemus has a conversation with the eternal God known as Jesus Christ? And Jesus said, You must be born again. Nicodemus didn't know that he was going to be at the cross, taking him down and wrapping him. So we get a first rap of his mum, the second rap is for Nicodemus, the third rap, very interesting how the Bible talks in threes, twelves, sevens, in we're not lifting up numerology. So Jesus gets wrapped at birth, death, uh, sorry, birth, death, and then he gets unwrapped by himself in the grave.

SPEAKER_01

And you mention uh that sort of wrapping and unwrapping around this time of year, you know, we're talking about Christmas presents and all that sort of thing, isn't it? And and that is you know totally away from the point.
