What does it really mean to take the Lord’s name in vain?

In this episode, we step into the third commandment and confront a deeper issue than swearing. Misusing God’s name happens whenever Jesus becomes a slogan, a brand asset, a fundraising tool, or background noise in worship. Language reveals loyalty, and repetition without reverence exposes drift.

We examine how church culture can slowly replace shepherds with CEOs, platforms with pulpits, and personality with the cross. When titles grow larger than Christ and strategy replaces surrender, something sacred is wasted.

From a simple Gospel of John giveaway that moved faster than expected, we are reminded that when Scripture is central, God opens doors. No hype. No branding tricks. Just the Word of God.

We ask hard questions:

• Is the cross still visible in our sanctuaries and sermons?

• Are we building ministries or lifting up Jesus?

• Does our speech reflect worship or performance?

• Are we teaching children to love the name of Jesus or use it casually?

Jesus said, “I am the way,” and “apart from me you can do nothing.” If that is true, then reverence is not religious stiffness. It is clarity.

This is a call to recover holy speech, Christ-centred worship, and Spirit-led service. Keep the cross visible. Keep the name sacred. Keep Scripture first.

If this resonates, share it with someone who needs to reset toward the cross.

Ten Commandments Recap And Plan

Launching The Gospel Of John Giveaway

SPEAKER_02

Of course, we're doing the shopping. Um before we before we get into uh the the text today, because we're gonna talk again about the the Ten Commandments, because last week we we were 50 minutes in, Ben. We only covered two of them, didn't we? So there's a lot to be going on with, and and we're gonna get into a few more. But what landed on our doorstep this week, Ben?

SPEAKER_01

Um unreal, absolutely so glorious, and the speed it's happened, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Tell us what we got, what we got.

SPEAKER_02

Ben, we got a Christian straight talk, Gospel of John, just a very small giveaway. And you know, just open it up and it's straight into the Gospel of John, but it's an explanation of um how you can begin a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Really great stuff. Um, and it's just a little bit about Christian Straight Talk, and um, but they're just great little giveaways. And so if anybody wants any of these, we've already put these out on social media, on Facebook, and and and whatever. If anybody wants any of these, just contact us at Simon at CStalk.uk uh and we'll get some give us your address, we'll get some out to you free of charge for the first for the first batch. Um and uh, you know, our brother across the table, Reverend Del Boy Cooper, we've got about 50,000 of these, haven't we? They're everywhere, they're everywhere. But they're great. We're so two weeks ago we sat across the table and thought, this would be a good idea.

SPEAKER_01

And now suddenly they're everywhere within the 14 days, they're everywhere, and I just it's amazing how God moves, isn't it? When something when God is is leading you into and the doors open, how how things change. You know, in ministry there's so many ministers and people building their own platform. When you build your own platform, it it it's just it's impossible. But you the the speed, we can't actually emphasize and just tell people, can we, how this has come around so quick and so powerful with I don't know what to say with no effort, but do you know what I mean with like within a blink of an eye? It all fits into a few seamlessly, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Seamlessly and the artwork and the professionalism of of the of these books is absolutely uh amazing, and uh to get one in your hands it's it would be it would be absolutely priceless, and to give someone the gospel of John You're giving out the gospel, you're giving out the word of God, man.

SPEAKER_01

And that's what the church should have done, doesn't it, all this time? How much literature is on church shelving that really does not talk about God? It's about the ministers, the leaders, give to the church, give this, do that, when actually the Bibles have got dust on, ain't they? When you think about it, the Bibles have got dust on, and man's literature is flying.

SPEAKER_02

I think that's the word in season, Ben. I think you know, wherever you are across the world, you know, shake the dust off your Bible and and open it up.

Back To Scripture Over Man-Made Platforms

SPEAKER_01

That's what we've done here, didn't we? Through lockdown, I was led to clearly clearing all the shelves off of everything, you know, all the different ministries, and but when you start clearing the shelves off, you don't realise what tut you actually have, what rubbish thousands of pounds worth of printing, trees cut down all over the world to promote to promote a man. So you got rid of all your GQ magazines, MVCM magazines, or the Lats magazines, got rid of all them, all that, yeah. And I just have a Bible, and the church just has Bibles. There's no other well, the only ministry that we have on its shelf is a ministry that we support, and that's uh Mao's, and that's a that's a really powerful ministry in Israel. That's that's that's the only one that we have. Um, but the gospel, the gospel of John, you know, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, powerful gospels, the word of God. But yeah, like Simon said, it it is a move of God, how everything's just going together. But I think what we are seeing is that we knew interest in what someone's brought again. Obviously, we've got to push our way through this uh as God leads us, but the Ten Commandments are needed in life, aren't they?

SPEAKER_02

Well, here's the deal, Ben, that they're not resolutions, are they? They're not like uh a New Year's resolution. This is a commandment of God, yeah. And it's God's moral law.

SPEAKER_01

Thou shalt go to the gym. It's none, it's not thou shall eat kebabs on a Saturday night and go to the football team and smoke twenty fags a week.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, it's and have a get a scratch card. No, it's none of that. Is is it's and the work what we said the the amazing point we we made, you know, if everyone in the whole world was to live by the Ten Commandments. What a different place it'd be.

SPEAKER_01

When but yeah sorry, even if you look at the church and the church stripped everything else away and just preached on the Ten Commandments what a difference that would be.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it it's a mirror for us, isn't it? It's like looking in the mirror and going and the thing is the thing is the Bible tells us that if we break one of those commandments, we break the lot, don't we? I'm in trouble again. And we've me and me and you and and the majority and and I guess many people listening to this this morning will have broken almost every one of these. As soon as I get out of bed. Before you get out of bed. Your eyes open.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, Lord. That's ironed a whole lot out.

SPEAKER_02

This is this is because we're human beings. Because we're human beings.

Why The Ten Commandments Still Matter

SPEAKER_01

And God created humanity, and God gave us a guide, a line, the word to follow, but he knew that we wouldn't be able to do that. Then he gives us and he hands over the greatest gift to humanity, John 3 16. God gives us Christ. What who what however we look at Christ, redemption. We are redeemed. And when you look at this text that Simon's brought to us, it is about being redeemed. Because when you look at every one of them, when you fall in that, you get redeemed from that. So redemption is in the Ten Commandments, it is on the backdrop, it's the on the underside of the text. Because when I foul one of them, as Simon says, they all drop off the peg. But what brings me back to Jesus through God and to God through is redemption. It's redemption. So the whole when you look at that and you read that, as we know, being redeemed to be, it means to be brought back to be uh coming back to we understand what redemption means. So all of these, when I fall from one of these, I've fallen from all of them, but then I'm redeemed because of the cross, because of Christ.

SPEAKER_02

And and through repentance, and repentance is it's turning away from the wrong stuff, which is outlined in the Ten Commandments, and it's embracing a new way of life, isn't it? Yeah. See, we we everyone needs rules and and and stuff to keep us on track.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, don't talk about the cameras on the motorway. I've got 12 disciples, and I in my licence. That's that's there's a classic example, innit? I go a little bit fast, I've made a few mistakes, so there's a penalty. It's a price to pay. There's a price to pay. Yeah. So I think I can't, I've I have to change my driving attitude.

SPEAKER_02

You've got to change your attitude, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So I have to change that, because if if I do any more, I'm in more trouble.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because you've never really got that boy racer at your system, did you? Do you know? No, no, no, no. And you've you've still driving that XL3 Ford Escort, aren't you?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, with a well towel on the back, with bross playing out the old sound system, windows undone, round the one-way system.

Commandment Three Introduced

SPEAKER_02

No, and the flames attached to the clues painted on the side of it. But it's it's the truth, but then you know, and and Jesus well as we re as we said last week, when when the Sadducees try to catch him out, and and what's the greatest commandment, he just hit them back to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your might, all your strength. And and the second one is to love thy neighbour as yourself. And these four first four commandments uh are about loving the Lord your God with all your heart, and and the second and the last six are about loving your neighbour. So today the we're gonna get into the third one, Ben. And the third one says this it says, You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. For the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

SPEAKER_01

Ben that that that is a that is a punch on its own without going. We managed to get through two last week just by the skin of our teeth. But when you look at that, you shall not misuse the NIV I'm in says, misuse the name of the Lord your God. How much is that misused when you think of TV programmes, blasphemous talk? It's massive. And also it's used in a way of ministry where people are using Jesus' name as an instrument to build their own ministry, but pushing him on the back burner denomination.

SPEAKER_02

You know what? That's very interesting you said that because you know I was driving here this morning and uh being a uh a good guy that I am was listening to a bit of premier praise because some of the songs are pretty and the amount of songs that just repeated, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, well it get it gets kind of meaningless, doesn't it? If you yeah if you're just banging on without any and it's watery, it's not yeah, there's no power to it.

SPEAKER_01

And you're right what you say there about people just using just using Jesus as a commodity. I use that I'll use that language because that's what it so when you look at verse 7 it says you shall not misuse that that opens up a door, doesn't it, to so much I can misuse it as in blasphemous, uh getting get in my own ways, manipulating people, using that name to get money to build ministry. So that how do I correctly use that name? What what is it saying in that text?

SPEAKER_02

I think first of all, we've got to recognise the power of that name, haven't we? The power in the name of Jesus and the power in the name of God. We've got to have a and we've said we've we spoke about this before, we've got to have a a real reverent fear of of the name and and of the use and how powerful it is.

Misusing God’s Name In Culture And Worship

SPEAKER_01

If you because we come away from that, and and as you quite rightly said, you see it, especially stuff that comes out of Netflix, every film, it just TV programme off the wall that will say Jesus Christ, yeah, just as a and and OMG now, oh my god, as has become um yeah a catchword, and it for but you wouldn't you wouldn't use you simply wouldn't use a a um another terminal, you wouldn't use there's loads of other words that you just wouldn't use, but cr Jesus Christ is used in so many places around the world for a blasphemous purpose. So when you understand what the name is, and we're we're in the signs of the times when a lot of the church is going on about revival, we're not in revival, we're we're in a place of persecution. That's what the Bible says at the end time. So to understand what Simon is saying is if I know what that name means, I will not misuse it. You won't missuse it because I'm in a true relationship, so even if I'm in ministry, I won't misuse it and I won't manipulate and use that to say this is this ministry is all about Jesus, when actually all I want to do is draw some money from you, I want to build my profile, I can build a church. So when someone says this is my church or this is my ministry, you're misusing the name of the Lord because it's not about you. You are a servant and you are a slave to righteousness.

SPEAKER_02

And it says, Ben, that for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. Mate, you do you don't want to get on the wrong side of God, do you?

SPEAKER_01

No, because right now. Come on. Look, it says in the Old Testament, it says, uh God says to the Israelites and the leaders, I will be an enemy to your enemies. What in the world who wants God to be your enemy? When you really seriously look at that text. Now we have a mass percentage of church within the westernized world just shouting out there at the moment, God is love, I know he's love, but God is coming back to judge the world, and the bride of Christ is being prepared, not the church, as in the way we know it, because the church misuses a certain percentage of the church, I should say, sorry, misuses the name of the Lord thy God simply by not teaching the gospel to Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_02

They don't teach the gospel, Ben, and and you know, there's lots of other points we're going to come on to, but just on that point, Ben, we you mentioned it uh and we sat across the table talking about the other day, and many churches now they don't even have the cross in the church. No. I've spoken in a few churches, I've been in a few churches lately, and and I've looked first thing I've done is look round. Where's the cross? Where's the cross?

SPEAKER_01

It's gone. The cross has to be in every room because that's what it's about. Everything brings us to the cross. The Gospel of John takes us to the cross. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Genesis is about the redemption because it's the fall. So the cross is under the fabric of the text in Genesis. Redemption.

SPEAKER_02

You know, seriously, how can you have a church without a cross?

SPEAKER_01

I don't I don't understand. How can you have a ministry without Jesus being the centre? How can you have, if you look at the Old Testament and New Testament, what is in, what does it all point to? The old, when the old started, as soon as it started, it was pointing straight away to the cross, and then from the cross, the the new, so everything springs from the cross.

SPEAKER_02

I think I think you're right, and you bring up a real interesting point, and it's something I haven't really thought of before. But if you're standing there and going, This is my ministry, you're in big trouble because if it's if if you're making everything point towards you, you know, Jesus said in John 15, 5, he said, I am the vine, you are grafted into the vine, you can do nothing apart from me. But if you start going off talking about yourself and point and the and the signpost is all about you and how you've done this, and you sit there and go, I've done this, I've done that. Whenever someone uses I, me, or my more than Jesus, then we're in trouble, ain't we?

Reverence Versus Branding And Celebrity

SPEAKER_01

You're 100% right because when you look at Christ, so many biblical references, he doesn't talk about himself. He says, I'm here to do the Father's will. So that clearly explains to me in verse 7 of Exodus, he knows what the the name of the Lord and what not how and he knows not how to misuse that name because he is respectful, not my will. When I'm building my world and my ministry, it's it's I, and it's the say it's very interesting about the seven I ams in the gospel of John. I am the bread of life, I am, and and all that stuff. But man uses that as well. I built this church, this is my ministry, I am the CEO. If anyone is a CEO, I've I'd love to challenge CEOs in ministries. Why are you a CEO of the cross? Because the CEO, there ain't a CEO of the cross. If anyone puts themselves as a director of a ministry, that's the worldly terminology. I honestly don't believe, I honestly believe this on my heart, there should be no CEO, it should be, it should be worded biblically, because a CEO, you will not find a CEO in the Bible. When you use CEO, you're using worldly terminology, and you are a businessman, you are not a preacher of the gospel.

SPEAKER_02

And that's and that's the sad part, isn't it? So we you know, churches have become businesses. Corporate, you know, um corporate elite environments. And here's the deal. I I I read a quote by I read another quote by Hudson Taylor um yesterday, and it said the church has got far too many celebrities and not enough servants, and and that's bang on the button.

SPEAKER_01

So verse seven of what we're talking about is critical. If you know the name and you don't misuse the name, you will be under submission and you will be a servant because you won't elevate yourself because greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world. And the Bible says, at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, I mean, you've just thrown out a scripture there, Philippians, is it two, two, I think, which is the it's done you, hasn't it?

SPEAKER_01

It's flattened you, it's flattened your ministry, it's flattened your life, it brings you to surrender. Wow. So when you misuse the name of the Lord, and this this is like this is a critical thing for the Westernised Church. If the Westernised Church doesn't come back to the cross, it's going to hell. It's going to hell. You can't, it's no in but between level. That's the truth. That's the other side of the cross. I mean the left is the left or the right, whenever you look at that cross, when when that that thief said, um don't forget me. Don't forget he said within a twinkling of an eye, you'll be with me. And the other one went to so there's two sides to the cross, it's heaven or hell. That's what we need. And if the church would just preach, look at that. Imagine if the sermons were, Oh, I've got to calm down because I'm on it today. Lord help me.

SPEAKER_02

There's only there's only Jesus and and and God our Father who's really got any right to say I am. I am, you know, uh, and and he says in in John 14, six, I am the way, the life, and the truth, didn't he? Yeah, yeah, no one comes to Father except for me. Now, either he was a um an egotistical maniac or a madman or uh you know, or he was telling the truth. Now, if he's telling the truth, then that name has the is the greatest name above all names, and it has to be respected, but it's not. It's it's we live in a world, listen to this. This is this will shock you, right? These last three days I've had my two grandkids. It's tough. That was tough.

SPEAKER_01

That I'll tell you what, anyway, and that's like God, this this is endurance. It's dub because you feel like Paul on the boat when he was like being shipwrecked uh completely. I despised of life itself, he said.

SPEAKER_02

So not only, you know, do they take up your time and and you're you're you know you're tired out, but they they empty your wallet as well. So so they've got you on both angles.

SPEAKER_01

Grandad, grandad.

SPEAKER_02

They got you on both angles, you know. But they're very funny and very beautiful, and I got you know, you there's there's a lot of love there. But uh the my youngest grandson, who's very, very bright, very intelligent, little I want to say his name, but he's he's five years old, right? And he sat there and he started, he said, he started using the word Jesus, you see. Now they go to a church school, yeah, right? Yeah, but he was using it in the wrong context.

SPEAKER_01

Really? Because what they watch on YouTube or whatever it's ingrained in their language.

Where Is The Cross In Our Churches

SPEAKER_02

So I had to sit down with him and I said, You know about Jesus? He said, Yeah, and he died on the cross. I said, Well, don't use his name. Use some other name. Don't use his name, because it's very precious that name. And so we had a discussion, and and and uh by the end of it he was okay. And uh and my wife says, No, you say oh gosh or something, you know, uh don't use that. But as young as five, right?

SPEAKER_01

So it's been indoctrinated early and they're as innocent and they are innocent, they are innocent little babes. So whatever they're hearing. That's it. He says, Well, I'm just saying his name.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just saying, I'm just saying his name grandpa. He says, Yeah, but if you're calling him and you don't really need him, then so you know, you you you you're telling you you're not using it correctly.

SPEAKER_01

I think he said a really interesting point, isn't he? I'm just using his so teaching is critical, correct sound doctrine.

SPEAKER_02

You're right. So if you're if if it's

SPEAKER_01

Just a name, then but this is a name, this is all names, a name above all names. So it so that verse seven has literally brought us to a point of explosion. Verse 7, you can't you have to understand the name. If you know the name, you will not misuse the name. Because why? Because you love him, but more than that, you know the wrath and the the misuse. Now the Bible says God is a jealous God, and he will not be, he will not be manipulated, he will not be shaped, and he will not be mocked. So coming back to this little word, coming off the Bible in a minute, guys, this word, the meaning of CEO, I've just flicked it up online, and this is what it means. So someone that whoever is out there that is a minister that puts this over your door, tell me where you find this in your in the Bible. A chief executive officer, the highest ranking person in a company or an institution, um responsibility their responsibility is for managerial decisions. So all you are is a manager of a business. You're not a servant. So we are in trouble. If you follow a ministry where on that website, on their card, says CEO, they are building their kingdom. Job done. If you follow someone and they are nameless and faceless, and they lift up the name of Jesus, they're servants. I know I've brought in the word CEO to what we're doing, but it's very relevant because that word CEO is lifting up the skin higher than the king, isn't it? So if what happens if you call yourself a president? You're in trouble, aren't you? All these talks you're in trouble.

SPEAKER_02

You really are because you're the president of this. I am really aware of that.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no, no, no. Hold on a minute. Titles are dangerous. Titles are dangerous. Because a title bigs me up. Oh no, can I be the vice president? You certainly can. Of what? Nothing. There you go. Because the book of Ecclesiastes is clear. Everything is meaningless. Everything's meaningless. Except the greatest name. Now God said, I have given him the name Emmanuel. What does that mean? God with us.

I, Me, My Versus He: Pride Examined

SPEAKER_02

Just on that point, right, a couple of years ago, oh, you know, they made me the UK lead in in this ministry ministry that came over from Texas and and we was and we were cracking on with it, you know. But when when obviously COVID come, um I looked at around and thought, well, I ain't the UK, I'm the leader of nothing here. Because you mean you're at home locked down. Yes, in the loop. So I'll give it back to them and said, you know, I'm sorry, you know, uh, and and they they've got someone else now. But you can't hang on to stuff, can you? You know, you you've got to, and you're quite right, Ben. You know, we ain't we're nothing. We're nothing without him. Without him. The Bible says you are a son and a daughter. And here's the deal with the name Jesus. Used in the correct way, is the most powerful name above all names, in Jesus' name. But how many uh how many times do even you know fellow Christians go, oh uh say that in Jesus' name?

SPEAKER_01

It's without actually understanding the power in that name, but there's power in the name. So if a ministry is promoting and I can't use, I can't stand what I'm saying, is promoting or or or giving Jesus to the world, that ministry will flourish because you are giving Jesus. And it's not really a ministry because when you look in the gospels and what it says about ministry, it says that they sold everything they had and they gave to the poor. They sold they didn't own anything.

SPEAKER_02

See I'm a big believer, Ben, right now. I don't think the Lord wants these big ministries, these big ministries they're collapsing. Yeah, he doesn't want it, they're shrinking. He he just he just wants m a a couple of guys with a heart for him.

SPEAKER_01

Just to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Because just to tell your neighbour Jesus loves you.

SPEAKER_02

Here's the deal, right? And I we we s we said last week, in it, you know, um you can't serve two masters and we're talking about uh you know the uh putting things before God. But if if you're earning a living from a CEO position, then the first thing you're gonna worry about each month is where's that money gonna come? Cause me wages. So you ain't gonna worry about the Lord, are you? You're not gonna put him first, you're gonna put the fundraising first. Fundraising first.

SPEAKER_01

So Simon has made Simon has made a very interesting point, and the way that we bring this to the Bible, because this is always in the Bible, is the Bible says there are hired hands and there are shepherds. A hired hand we have behind pulpits because they are hired and they are paid. A shepherd, a shepherd is something completely different. So when you understand what it says in verse 7, you shall not misuse the name the Lord thy God. The ministry, the calling, so we have to bring it to a calling. What are you called to? I'm called to follow Jesus. That's all I'm called to do. You've made a great point because me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah. Me? Yeah, you made a great point because, Ben, if you're using Jesus to bring in a few quid, using the name of Jesus to bring in a few quid every month before you've got out of bed, you need a certain amount to live.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Come to my church.

SPEAKER_02

You're in trouble.

SPEAKER_01

Because people relate the word church to Christianity religion, but you're miss you. So you're you are a salesman, or you are a CEO, or you are a director, but not a servant.

SPEAKER_02

Even Paul the Apostle, St. Paul, you know, the greatest evangelist and the greatest he he he he was a tent maker, wasn't he? A tent maker?

SPEAKER_01

Even Jesus. Jesus was a builder, a carpenter. Go out and get a job. But when you look at the way Christ spoke, he did not lift himself. Where did you ever see him giving himself a bit of literature at? I'm building my ministry. Here you go. Look, click onto this QR code and you'll you'll find me. Do you know what I mean? All he said was, I'm here to do the Father's will. And he said a very impacting part of that message. I'm not here to do my will. So what in the world, Jesus, was your will? He says that three or four times in the Gospels. I'm here to do his.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think it's very clear, Ben. I think it's very clear for each and now that has repercussions for each and every single one of us listening to this podcast today, because we can't fulfil any of these commandments without the Holy Spirit. We can't do it in our own flesh. We're fleshly people, ain't we? Yeah. And we can't, you know, we can't um we can't turn our head away from that pretty girl over there without the Holy Spirit. Because the flesh was.

CEOs, Titles, And Worldly Structures

SPEAKER_01

You can't leave the scratch card without the You can't leave the alcohol, you can't leave, you can't leave the gambling, you can't leave the addictive social media stuff. You can't we the flesh is addicted because the Bible says each man is drawn away by his own lust. So there is something within a human being that will try to draw you away from Jesus Christ, but it can't draw you in because you are grafted in, but your flesh is always trying. And the Bible says in Matthew, uh, the spirit is willing and the flesh is weak. That's very clear. But when I know the name, I start to find my life gets easier. You start, yes, because I'm not misusing it. It's not for me.

SPEAKER_02

I will give you rest. Now, you know, how many times have you or I been been out somewhere and we've just gone, Jesus, I need you. I need you, Lord, help me. That is that is the powerful way to use that.

SPEAKER_01

I know we laugh at this, I know we laugh at this when I say this, but I literally wake up in the morning and I honestly say with all my heart, God, please help me. I I actually don't know how I'm going to get through the day without you. And that is that is my heart's cry every morning. I lay there as soon as my eyes are opened, before I'm literally alert, I'm um Lord help. Please, I'm just I need you, God. And my heart is crying before I'm literally, because we know what we have to face through the day, and if I don't have God and the Holy Spirit helping me, I'm in serious trouble. I'm in serious trouble, Ben, because I'm not the point of telling anybody that.

SPEAKER_02

Listen, uh, and we're we're all there. We're all there, Ben. I am Jesus. We need Jesus to get us through the day. Because if we left our own devices, oh my day, I'd be a CEO.

SPEAKER_01

Because when you look at that, I I keep talking about this.

SPEAKER_02

Legend in your own lunchtime.

SPEAKER_01

I am, and I'll be eating me lunch on my own. Do you know what I mean? But verse seven, we haven't even moved. No, and you we're never gonna move from that. You shall not misuse. So I need to understand as a believer what does it mean? Who is God? Where is God? Why is it so important not to misuse his name? What is the purpose of the seven I ams? Why did Jesus say I'm not here to do my will when actually you're the image of the invisible God? So that line alone is so deep and so entrenched in solid foundation in Jesus.

SPEAKER_02

And the only way you get to understand that is to get into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. And it doesn't happen in your head, it can't, it happens in your heart.

SPEAKER_01

No, so if someone was to look at that line and go, You shall not uh misuse the name of the Lord thy God, okay, but you're talking about God, but actually that's Jesus as well, because the Gospel of John, ain't it amazing? Come back to the Gospel of John, verse one of chapter one. In the beginning, uh, in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. And the Bible says in John chapter 14, verse 1, uh, the word became flesh. Colossians says Christ is the image of the invisible God. So, in that line, Jesus is in that line. He's in that line, totally. He's in that line.

SPEAKER_02

So don't misuse Jesus. Jesus, don't misuse God the Father and don't blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

SPEAKER_01

But your little grandson has brought an interesting thing to the table. So who teaches him? The church? Hang on a minute. If they ri Now I'm being really skating on thin ice, if the church, if we look across the broad spectrum of church, is the church teaching and preaching Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I said to him, so is look, take him for an example. I said to him, um, I said, You can talk to Jesus, uh, and that's called praying. He said, Yes, uh, grandma, we we do pray, we put our hands together and we pray at the end of the day, but she said, But some of them prayers go on quite a long time.

SPEAKER_01

So I tell you what, God is speaking through that grandson, your grandson, very clearly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

Servants Not Hired Hands Or Fundraisers

SPEAKER_01

So what does that mean? So automatically we go, the Lord's prayer. Jesus said, Don't be like the Pharisees and the Sadducees standing on the street corners for the sound of the then he drops in the middle of that, the Lord's prayer, and then he says at the end of that, and don't be like the pagans that love the sound of their own voice. It's it's a simple thing, innit? A simple prayer. So help me Jesus. Help me Jesus. So your grandson is bang on the button. They're a bit long, granddad. I'm only I'm only saying what I've been taught. Now, what is the church? The I'm gonna go, what is a lot of denominations doing? They are only doing what the leaders have taught them to do.

SPEAKER_02

So the the the teachers taught them because he he said we pray, we put our hands together, and we and that's great, but you don't need to do that, do you? You don't need to put your hands together. I said, Look, Jesus is your friend. Anytime you're in trouble, you just call out to him, and that's that's when you use that name properly. If more of that is is taught, then we've got we've got Jesus moving, haven't we? We've got Jesus moving, there's momentum with that. Otherwise, we're all gonna run down this line of of oh yeah, on that TV programme, they just called out Jesus and they just used it as an excrimination or a curse word. So if we can if we can teach our young kids, and and and this falls on parents, too, isn't it? And parents and grandparents and and and anyone with with who has a deep relationship with with young people, you've got to just explain to them exactly what the name of of Jesus is, yeah and how it's taught, because uh otherwise we're just rolling down a hill and this thing's just going to be.

SPEAKER_01

And that's where we sit in different denominations. So when you look at denominations, the denomination, a big percentage of denominations have slid, they've slid away from the gospel of Jesus Christ. But when someone was talking about teaching children, the Bible says teach a child in the way that it should go. So where does the teaching start? The teaching starts indoors, yeah. But if the adults or the Christians are not getting the correct doctrine, it's not going to come through the food line, the chain of of all of conversation. But if if the church is preaching the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, if the church is preaching and teaching about marriage and and Adam and Eve and not um uh Adam and Steve, if the church is really preaching the gospel and the foundational points of creation, if I know what creation really is and how powerful it is and eschatology, if I've got the two ends of the Bible, the beginning and the end, then suddenly I work my way in. And where do I work to the cross? Yeah, yeah, no, it's it's all it's the center of everything. Jesus is centre, Christ is center, and with that we find God, because Jesus says, Simon said it, the Bible says it, I am the way to the I am, because he uses the I am, so he's using the terminology when when God Himself, Jesus, was in uh when Moses was in his presence, when he says, I am that I am. So when Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, he's directing humanity to him, but to God, but through him, because we got to be sifted and washed in the blood before we go to the Father. It's not complicated, Ben.

SPEAKER_02

It's not complicated, and I honestly think there's there's um uh doctrine out there that that says uh it has to be complicated, it wants it to be complicated, yeah. But Jesus never made it complicated. Jesus never made it complicated. Um I heard a a thing um with Billy Graham the other day and he he said uh he was preaching at uh I think Cambridge University in the UK and um they came to him afterwards and said uh your preaching's uh too complicated. And he said, But it's very simple. He said, Yeah, the students can't get their head around it that it's that simple. Isn't that amazing?

Dependence On Jesus And Daily Humility

SPEAKER_01

Just crazy, isn't it? It's too complicated, but it's so simple we can't get it. Yeah, because that's where education and the Bible deals with education, education and knowledge puffs up, but the word gives revelation. So when the word cannot be received by education, the word is only received by revelation. So intelligent intelligent people struggle because the intelligence and the human mind is trying to always outwit creation because it can't seem to grasp that God just said let there be light, and there was.

SPEAKER_02

This is interesting, Ben, and and you've um you brought me to this scripture that that just reminded me, and and it's just um because we're going slightly off the track, but it's not off track, it's it's where we're going, because it's this is the knowledge, and it's from Jeremiah 9, 23 and 24, and it says this, it says, Thus says the Lord, let not the wise man boast of his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness on earth, for I delight in these things, declares the Lord. Don't boast in yourself, don't use the name of don't CEO yourself. Don't CEO yourself, boast in Jesus.

SPEAKER_01

So what am I? I'm a servant of the king. Your servant. Imagine seeing that on ministries when it says who we are and what we do. I am a servant of Jesus. Someone tell me or text me where that says on a ministerial page, I am a servant of Jesus. You can't get a bigger calling, you can't get a bigger, bigger big up than actually say I am a servant of the king, but we use worldly terminologies and we misuse the name of the Lord thy God, building our own kingdom.

SPEAKER_02

Totally. We do we totally totally.

SPEAKER_01

So how do how do I, as a believer, not build me up, but build Jesus up and not misuse the name of the Lord? Well, quite simply, you put him first, don't you?

SPEAKER_02

So you put him first, you get to know him, you spend time getting to know him, and then spend and don't and don't go out of your way to build your own kingdom up. You any kingdom has to be built and has to be I mean, listen both of us here are not perfect. We've all run down diff routes where we thought this would be good enough, and we end up spending spending a couple of bob, don't we, on on things that we've misuse when when you put Jesus first and let him open the doors for you? Look what happened to these to these little gospels. In two weeks, we've got a thousand of them sitting in your in the pod room here.

SPEAKER_01

And i it it's just beyond. So the misuse of the name of the Lord thy God, I've got to understand what the name is, why he's been called. There's so much in the misuse of. There's so much in that, isn't it? It's like it's so much in the mode of your thinking.

SPEAKER_02

But if if in your answer again to the question you how do we get round that is to to understand the power of the name. So if we understood the power of the name of Jesus, so if you understand the power of the name, I won't misuse it. You won't misuse it. If we understand the power spirit, you won't blaspheme. Yeah, you know that you you won't take it because you're under conviction. Yeah, you're right, you because you understand that that name is so powerful, and it can help you help us out and it can be with us, and we never want to rush be away from it. We want to be with Jesus, we want to be following Jesus, we want to keep our hands to the plough and follow him and not look back. So important. It's so important. If we if we don't, very quickly, yeah, yeah. I mean, look, you've only got to be half a degree out. Just just a tiny speck at the very beginning. And you've missed it, and you've missed it. And that's the subtleness of the enemy. So the enemy will come in, and how many times, Ben, and you you can tell us how many times have we got people, men and women, started off in churches with the greatest intentions. They were loving the Lord, and so all of a sudden that little thing self gets in there.

Teaching Children To Honour The Name

SPEAKER_01

It's gone from a servant to now I'm a CEO of an organization that is not relevant to the kingdom of God, because I'm I'm kingdom building for myself.

SPEAKER_02

We're not going to mention any names here because they're the Lord's men and and women and whatever. But you know, there was one uh one person who led a an amazing church and and we saw amazing things happen in the UK, but now he builds himself up as an actor and also um and also a um guru guru and and a motivational speaker, and it's all about me rather than Jesus.

SPEAKER_01

So for quickness, if I want to follow a ministry, you will find the people that are the servants of the ministry will will not put themselves as CEOs. They will they will be almost disappearing because if as soon as you crack open that that ministerial page, it has to be about Jesus, it has to be about the gospels. Salvation, if it's not about that, it's about the organisation.

SPEAKER_02

Very interesting. Look, look, things uh we're there at the door, aren't we? Yeah, but things that you know, organisations uh and they have to have leaders, right? And they have to have leaders, and the leaders have to make godly decisions, but it the lead then then then the fine line comes when you step over to Mark and it it becomes about you, not about Jesus.

SPEAKER_01

It has to be about Jesus. Yeah. So And I'm learning a lot. I've made some serious mistakes, and I'm so sorry, God, where I failed you when I've tried to build me and I've not delivered the gospel, I've not I've preached wrong messages, I've delivered something because I've heard another ministry and I've tried to copycat something else.

SPEAKER_02

Are you gonna take that statue down in the front?

SPEAKER_01

Actually, no, I'm gonna paint it. I've got someone coming and putting gold, putting a gold leaf over the top of it. I must sort my uh facial expressions out a bit better, need a bit more chiseling. I've lost a bit of weight since then.

SPEAKER_02

But no, we we joke and we love, but it you know, but it's the truth. It's the truth.

SPEAKER_01

If if you've got something where it it it's all about I've seen you can see these all of us do it about me. It because it's built in the skin. It's built in the skin. You've only got to look at you know you've only got to look at Rahab. People go, what what do I look at Rahab for? If you look at Rahab, that the prostitute with the spires, she lied blatantly, what for to save her own skin. She all she was interested in was her family getting out of a situation. And it's funny what a human being will say when your back is against the wall or you've you know and and I I I love this.

SPEAKER_02

We've we've saved in this, you know, take the name of the Lord your God in vain. For the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain, and and you know, pride is a massive thing, and and it's the enemy's uh it brought down the enemy and it brings down many, many people because pride and ego is putting ourselves before the and using stepping on really stepping on the name of Jesus, stepping on the Trinity to to yeah, yeah, yeah, that's what it's about to catapult yourself to accelerate me to the Godhead.

SPEAKER_01

It it this is a that is a serious line, and I feel that well we have and we haven't, you know, we haven't even dived into it, haven't even opened up the envelope with it, you know, because in that line you've got salvation, you've got you've got doctrine, you've got forgiveness, you've got um you've got everything just in verse seven. You've got so much, the more you look look at, the more you can't you realise that you ain't you haven't opened the can of the lid of it yet, it's just so much of it.

SPEAKER_02

But all this stuff, these these three, I mean if we've only done the three commandments haven't we love the Lord your God, do not make a craven image, don't take the Lord your God. All these all the first those three and the next one, which we remember the Sabbath, and and and we can we'll go into that next week. But but they're all about getting to know God. They're all about getting to know Jesus and loving him, and they're all about taking your eyes off yourself. Take your eyes off yourself, and just I will, but you all will be done.

SPEAKER_01

Just lift up Jesus. Just lift up Jesus.

SPEAKER_02

Has to be Jesus, doesn't it? We lift Jesus up to the Father.

Sound Doctrine Made Simple, Not Slick

SPEAKER_01

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and everything else will be added.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it will be added.

SPEAKER_01

So whatever your calling is, you don't need to build your calling because you've been called to deliver what you've got to deliver. And don't put the pound note or the dollar, the website, the Twitter feed before Jesus. You know, just lift up Jesus, just just give the world Jesus.

SPEAKER_02

If you're looking for people to give you money, go and get a job. Go out and get a job. Drive Tesco's deliveries, drive a supermarket delivery thing, stack shelves and give the gospel something and give the gospel out.

SPEAKER_01

And see where it see see how happy you'll be. So the challenge is, isn't it, to the world? Give Jesus rather than self. And watch him. My God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in glory.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, you've summed it up. Uh you don't need to add any more to that, Ben, to be honest with you. You've you've summed it up. And we just say thank you for listening to uh all the people across the across the world who've listened to this. And uh don't forget these little gospels. Um they're just great things. Just give the gospel. You know, just give we can we can supply you with with some of these if you if you want some. Don't forget Simon at cstalk.uk uh and we'll get in contact with us and and we'll get some out to you. That's not a problem. Um we're done. Yeah, we're done. Have a great week, you know. Lift up the name of Jesus and um uh and we'll see you again next time.

SPEAKER_01

God bless. Perfect, thank you, God.
